Mission Values of Skyview: Today & Tomorrow
We desire that Skyview Presbyterian Church be a congregation that:
1. Maintains a two-fold purpose: ministry and mission. Ministry refers to the serving the goals for edification of God’s people within Skyview (Eph. 4: 13). Mission refers to the going out to witness to (Acts 1:8), to seek the good of (Jeremiah 29:7) and to win the admiration from (1Peter 2:12) the “mission field city” to which God has sent us.
Therefore, Skyview …
2. Is strongly committed to Biblical (i.e. Reformed) Christianity in both ministry and mission, in all aspects of individual and community life, confessing that all broken people are candidates for the gospel.
3. Is warm and hospitable in its welcome of unbelievers and believers alike regardless of their background, knowing that God’s people are being called from all sorts of life circumstances.
4. Purposefully and regularly reaches out to the community through acts of compassion and generosity.
5. Rejects an exclusive or enclave view of the church universal, the Reformed tradition, and of itself.
6. While the PCA as a denomination possesses very conservative congregations and very progressive ones, Skyview’s church-spirit shall maintain a proper balance, holding firmly and uncompromisingly to our Reformed/Westminster/Presbyterian theological heritage, while emphasizing the generous and open-heartedness of the Christian gospel towards all people.
Therefore, Skyview …
7. Communicates the gospel of God’s grace in Jesus and all Biblical truths clearly and compassionately, exercising patience and forbearance toward all, knowing that God sometimes uses long periods of time to draw in the elect.
8. Considers the use of ministry forms that may be unconventional, but are consistent with Scripture and honoring to God.
9. Equips the body to understand and effectively communicate the gospel both within and outside the church.
10. Encourages church-planting missions locally and worldwide through financial & prayer support from home and on site member participation.
11. Gives at least ten percent, and if possible more, of its income to missions.
12. Seeks ways to understand and engage our culture in meaningful conversation where the gospel bears on contemporary issues.
13. Partners actively primarily with PCA but also with non-PCA ministries as well, which are consistent with this vision and have demonstrated effectiveness in spreading the gospel.
14. Embraces a worship service that is first and foremost God centered, both historically rich and culturally appropriate. Encourages congregational participation from both the pew and the front. Recognizes that music from different traditions/genres may be needed to stir worship in different elements of the congregation.
15. Offers ministries to all age groups that focus on life-shaping and life-changing discipleship, outreach, and fellowship.
16. Views its assets, including building, equipment, and fund balances, as an essential means to serving Christ by the accomplishment of the ministry identified herein.
